Woofing hos Kålaberga
Bo, ät och arbeta på en skånsk plantskola — sedan 1981.
Woofing
Live, eat, and work at a Scanian plant nursery with e-commerce & shop
We host WWOOFers in Kålaberga, between Vinslöv and Kristianstad. Here, we have grown pansies, summer flowers, dahlias, and herbs for three generations, on the same soil, in the same greenhouse, since 1981. We have now also added tropical production, e-commerce, and a shop.
This is not a lifestyle farm. It is a proper nursery where every tray of pansies that leaves the farm means something to someone. If you are curious about what it means to truly produce living plants, work hard, and sleep well, you are welcome.
What you will do with us
The work follows the season. It varies from week to week, but you will do a lot of the following:
- Cuttings and replanting of the herb assortment (rosemary, sage, thyme, basil)
- Dahlia planting in spring and delivery during summer; we grow over 25,000 dahlia pots per season
- Care of the special assortment: Licorice Tagetes, Olive Herb, Crimean Basil, hanging rosemary, Allium 'Fat Leafs', varieties no industrial grower dares to attempt
- Customer contact in the farm shop on Thursdays and Sundays 10 AM–4 PM
- Greenhouse work: watering, thinning, quality control, packing for delivery to garden centers
- You can also participate when we plan for the next season, if you want to see how a Swedish plant nursery operates in its entirety
- If you have technical skills, there is an opportunity to help with e-commerce and some administration if desired
What you get
- Accommodation: Your own room in a simple but warm guesthouse on the farm. Shared bathroom and kitchen with any other WWOOFer. Bed linen, towels, and Wi-Fi included.
- Food: Three homemade meals a day. Herbs directly from the garden. Coffee and fika at 9 AM and 2:30 PM.
- Working hours: 7 AM–2:30 PM, Monday to Friday. Two full days off each week.
- Duration: Minimum 2 weeks, maximum 3 months. We host year-round.
- Extras: You get a bicycle to borrow for excursions, and a car can be borrowed if needed.
Who you are
The WWOOFers who thrive best with us usually have these qualities:
- You are genuinely curious about plants, not just about traveling cheaply
- You can take initiative and work without someone constantly overseeing you
- You can manage in English. Swedish, Polish, Lithuanian are a plus, but not required
- You can handle Swedish rural life: quiet in the evenings, the nearest pub is 7 km away, mobile coverage is OK but not fantastic
- You are physically able to lift, bend, stand a lot, and be out in all weather (rain gear and boots are available to borrow)
- You are between 18 and 65 years old, but age matters less than attitude
Who you are not
For both of us to avoid disappointment, it is important to read this:
- You are not looking for a free vacation. This is 30 hours of work per week — and we take it seriously
- You do not have severe pollen allergies or strong dust sensitivity. A greenhouse environment is not the right place for that
- You do not want to be in a place with nightlife or much to do outside the farm itself. The area is beautiful but quiet
- You do not plan to work 2 days and travel 5. We want someone who is actually here and committed
